Ecclesia de Eucharistia, Encyclical by Bl. Pope John Paul II
The Eucharist is the 'source and summit of the Christian life' and stands at the center of the Church's life. In the Encyclical Letter, John Paul II seeks to rekindle the Eucharistic 'amazement' of the Upper Room, to contemplate Christ as he manifests himself above all in the living sacrament of his body and blood. The encyclical covers the Eucharist as mystery of faith, the Eucharist as it builds the Church, the apostolicity of the Eucharist and the Church, the Eucharist and ecclesial communion, the dignity of the Eucharistic Celebration, and Mary, Woman of the Eucharist. The Pope declared in its introduction: "It is my hope that the present Encyclical Letter will effectively help to banish the dark clouds of unacceptable doctrine and practice, so that the Eucharist will continue to shine forth in all its radiant mystery."
